When ex-hunter Mary finds out one of the local psychics is the real deal, they both find someone they can confide in about their pasts, and who can understand the pain of being separated from your family due to the supernatural. After a while, Mary finally brings up the thing she's most afraid to acknowledge- she loves her husband, she really does, but sometimes she really doesn't like him all that much and she's finding it harder and harder to escape the sense that something is really wrong. (And maybe her developing feelings for Missouri help highlight that something about her feelings for John just doesn't feel natural.)

I've seen a few different posts about the idea of Missouri and Mary getting to know each other before Mary died, but I think [this post] by @nobodydean is the one that most directly inspired this.

I genuinely think John was planning to kill Sam all of season 1, mostly because his reputation and descriptions via other characters didn't really match up with the guy we see. He's clearly shaken up by something, grieving anew (at least that's the impression I got), ghosts both kids (in anticipation of a hard decision perhaps), and his reaction to Sam's "visions" is telling. And when he's making that deal to save Dean's life, a little bit he seems relieved because he's passing on the burden of what he might have to do to Sam to someone else.

If there was a main female protagonist in supernatural since the beginning, I fully believe Dean wouldn’t have been such a weirdo about women.

Bonus points if she’s as old as Mary and behaves motherly towards Sam and Dean both. Like, if Jody or Missouri were there the entire time Dean would have had a bit more respect for women and Sam wouldn’t have such crippling mommy issues. Also give Sam a scalp massage please that man needs it
